The Bagel Breakfast shiur on Sunday 29th April was given by R' Eli Pick on the topic of "H.M. The Queen's Jubilee".
Whisky Tasting 2012
The 5th Annual Whisky tasting took place on Motzei Shabbos, 10th March 2012 and was enjoyed by 24 attendees, led by our local whisky enthusiast (a nice word for addict), Daniel Ehreich. Kugel was served by our local kugel server who would prefer not to be named, and cocktails expertly prepared and presented by the preeminent Josh Riffkin.
Ovos U'Bonim
Ovos Ubonim has completed another successful season. Over 1000 hours of Torah learning graced our Shul over a sixteen week period. The highlight for the children (and adults) was the Pizza and Chips Melava Malka. We were honoured that Rabbi Reuven Atlas gave a Dvar Torah addressed to the children. Special thanks go to Mark Garfield who masterminded the season, Henry Ehreich who sat in on all the sessions taking note of the attendances and dealing with the Raffle and, above all, the 58 youngsters who attended at least one session. Thanks also to Michael Bass and Benji Garfield for their help.
Ovos U'Bonim Melava Malka 2012
The Ovos U'Bonim Melava Malka was held on Motzei Shabbos Parshas Vayechi for children who had attended Ovos U'Bonim this season. There was pizza, chips and nosh to enjoy. The beis hamidrash was packed with children and their fathers, grandfathers and older brothers, and everyone enjoyed listening to the guest speaker, Rabbi Atlas, Menahel of Menorah Primary School.
Chanukah Party 2011
![]()
A Chanukah party for children was held on Sunday the 25th December 2011 in the Beis Hamedrash for children aged 3-11. There were fun chanukah activities including arts & crafts, a quiz and story-time. There was also ample "children's kiddush style" nosh and, in case you had any doubts, there were of course doughnuts!
Many thanks Rachaeli Rabinowitz for arranging this event and to her friend Tami Marchant and parents David and Liezel for their assistance.
Melava Malka 2011
The annual Melava Malka was held on Motzei Shabbos Parshas Vayishlach 5772, 10th December 2011. Around 80 people attended, several of whom were the lucky winners of one or more of the 17 prizes in the raffle.
Entertainment was provided courtesy of the Spanish and Portuguese Choir led by Eliot Alderman, and the guest speaker was Dayan Yaakov Lichtenstein who spoke about the Parsha and "A Day in the Life of a Dayan".
Many thanks to the organisers, particularly to Jonathan Gershlick, Daniel Kienwald and David Freedman. Thanks also to all those who sponsored raffle prizes - a list will be published here shortly.
Hachnosas Sefer Torah
The Hachnosas Sefer Torah, written in memory of the late Rav, took place on Sunday 17 July 2011. The writing of the final letters took place in the Hasmonean Boys School Hall where refreshments were served, including pekalach for the children. Those who purchased a Sedra were offered the opportunity to complete one of the final letters.
Safrus Sunday
In preparation for the Hachnosas Sefer Torah, Safrus Sunday was held in the shul on 3rd July 2011.
Several Sofrim were in Shul to explain and demonstrate various aspects of their work. It was a fun and engaging event for the whole family, and a fascinating insight into how Sifrei Torah, Tefillin and Mezuzos are written. There were opportunities for everyone to have a go at writing on parchment with a quill.
